CarbonLite Systems LLC keeps small pieces of information in your browser, called cookies and browser storage. This page lists all of them and why each is there.
Your choice
The first time you visit, a bar at the bottom of the page asks you to accept or decline cookies. We remember your answer in a cookie called clbs_cookie-pref, and, if you sign in, on your account, with the time and the version of this policy you saw. For now we only record your answer. It does not change what the site shows or does.
Essential
The site does not work without these: signing in, security checks, and remembering your cookie choice.
- Sign-in session (cookie). Keeps you signed in on this computer. Kept: until you sign out or the session ends. Stored as
app_session_id. - Visitor session (cookie). Tells one visitor from another before sign-in, for security and abuse limits. Kept: until the session ends. Stored as
visitor_session_id. - Your cookie choice (cookie). Remembers whether you accepted or declined cookies. Kept: 1 year. Stored as
clbs_cookie-pref. - Sign-in tokens (session storage). Amazon Cognito proves who you are to the site. A second copy of the tokens lives in local storage so a new tab stays signed in. Kept: until you sign out. Stored as
carbonlite_cognito_access_token,CognitoIdentityServiceProvider.*. - Sign-in refresh marker (session storage). Stops the sign-in page from reloading in a loop. Kept: until you close the tab. Stored as
carbonlite:login-auth-refresh. - Cloudflare security check (session storage). Remembers that the not-a-robot check passed, so you are not asked again on every page. Cloudflare may also set its own security cookies. Kept: until you close the tab. Stored as
carbonlite_portal_turnstile_ok,carbonlite_portal_turnstile_token,carbonlite_register_turnstile_ok_v1:*,carbonlite_register_turnstile_token_v1:*,carbonlite_public_property_turnstile_v1:*. - Registration draft (local storage). Keeps what you typed on the registration form if you leave and come back. Kept: until registration finishes. Stored as
carbonlite-signup-draft:*. - Where you came from (session storage). Remembers which page or link brought you to registration. Kept: until you close the tab. Stored as
carbonlite_registration_origin.
Functional
Small conveniences, such as remembering which panels you left open. The site works without them.
- Licensing wizard progress (local storage). Remembers which licensing step you were on and what you typed, so you can come back to it. Kept: until licensing is complete. Stored as
carbonlite.licensing.step.*,carbonlite.licensing.draft.*. - Panel and sidebar layout (local storage). Remembers whether the sidebar is collapsed and which panels you left open. Kept: until you clear your browser data. Stored as

carbonlite-photos-documents-property. - Where you were in an energy assessment (session storage). Keeps the first step of an energy assessment if the page reloads. Kept: until you close the tab. Stored as
carbonlite-systems-energy-assessment-step1. - Proposal request just sent (session storage). Keeps the confirmation that a proposal request was sent if the page reloads, so the form does not come back empty. Kept: until you close the tab, or you open the conversation or press done. Stored as
cls-proposal-sent:*. - Hidden open questions (session storage). Remembers that you put off the open questions on a PACE project. Kept: until you close the tab. Stored as
pace-open-questions-hidden:*.
Analytics
Counts of visits and pages, so we can see what is used. Only when analytics is switched on for the site.
- Google Analytics (cookie). Counts visits and pages. Kept: up to 2 years. Stored as
_ga,_ga_*. Only used when analytics is switched on for the site.
Marketing
We do not use advertising or marketing cookies.
